While being compared to bands like Caedmon's Call, Live, Jars Of Clay, Toad the Wet Sprocket and Matchbox 20, Jason Ingram Band(JiB) has definitely made a niche of its' own, both in their music and their message. Landon Schadel, guitarist and vocalist for Jason Ingram Band, says "songwriting definitely takes precedence over flashiness," as can be heard in the simple but catchy songs "Rhythm of You" and "Coin in a Basket". Jason Ingram, lead vocals and the band's namesake adds, "It doesn't matter how good of a player you are, if you can't write a good song, you can't communicate to the people." Ron Fugelseth, percussionist for the band agrees and points out that, "good songs are fun to play, and if playing isn't fun, why do it"?
JiB's self titled and second album, their first on Audience Records, came out in January of 1998. The first was an independent project entitled "Somewhere In Heaven". This project reflects a change in both quality and style. Four years of playing together in the northern California bay area has helped the band create a unique sound combined with a polished and professional show.
"We just want to concentrate on our personal walks with Christ and let our lives be the example. We all have real families and real lives, and we can't let dreams of stardom get in the way of those, or our continual growth in Christ."
Combining driving acoustic guitars, tasteful electric guitars and vocal melodies you can't help but sing along to, JiB takes modern acoustic rock to the next level. JiB has drawn one of the largest most consistent Christian crowds in the bay area for several years now. But popularity isn't the driving force behind JiB. "We just want to concentrate on our personal walks with Christ and let our lives be the example. We all have real families and real lives, and we can't let dreams of stardom get in the way of those, or our continual growth in Christ."
Well you can count on great songs and a great time with JiB as they share their music and their message to thousands of people each year. Each member has discovered on their own that music is both their calling and their passion in life. It offers them the opportunity to express their feelings and share their lives with others from a Christian perspective, being all too absent in today's society. Given the growth of the band both musically and spiritually the last few years, you can expect to hear more and more about JiB for years to come.
