WHILE YOU ARE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Our ranch is just four miles from Fort Benton, the Birthplace of Montana. In the summer of 1996, Fort Benton celebrated its 150th birthday. We're older than the state!

In Fort Benton you can see the remains of the old fort, which was a trading post for trappers and Indians alike. You will see the Missouri River, the "Levee", where the steamboats unloaded cargoes, and where ox-train drivers (like Joe's great-grandfather) and mule skinners took the goods on west, because Fort Benton was as far up the Missouri River as the steamboats could get, due to falls on above. The Grand Union, a historic hotel, once the finest between St. Paul and Seattle, newly renovated, is also an attraction of Fort Benton.

There is a national monument of Lewis and Clark and their Indian guide Sacajawea to see, and a sculptural tribute to Shep, the sheepdog that was Forever Faithful, waiting years for his master to return after the old sheepherder was put on a train East for burial.

Fort Benton has two museums, The Museum of the Upper Missouri, and the Agricultural Museum of the Northern Plains. If you like western history, told by third and fourth generation Montanans, you need to plan an extra day in Fort Benton, after you visit our place.

We can also put you in touch with some of our neighbors who offer guided float trips on the Missouri, hunting trips, big game as well as birds, seasonal, of course, and more.
